Street fairs
Cheap socks, fried dough, chair massages, sausage and pepper heroes, 99 cent Thai food...while the spirit of street fairs seems a little lost (they rarely represent the neighbors they're placed in), NYC street fairs offer up a predictably inexpensive shopping excursion, as well as a nightmare scenario for cab/bus riders trying to get across town.
