Sigh...the McCarren Park Pool held its last public event on August 30, 2008 and plans to reopen as a municipal pool/park in 2012. Check the photo galleries to the right to see what we all are missing.
This former urban swimming hole (capacity 6,800!) in Williamsburg's McCarren Park has long been drained and hosts a random bill of acts to match the neighborhood’'s patchwork scene. (Bands playing the massive concrete playground have included Cat Power, Sonic Youth and, inexplicably, the Disco Biscuits). Catch free shows on Sundays all summer long and pack your swimsuit -- the now-infamous Slip 'n Slide will be open for business.
